About the location

Didim, the old name Didyma, is situated on the N shore of Gulluk Korfezzi Bay and across from the Bodrum peninsula.

Starting from 1980s Didim became very popular among the residents of big cities of Turkey, such as Ankara, Istanbul. They have been buying homes here ever since. The town consists, mainly, of recently built villas, cottages and apartments. The most widespread signboards that you see in the streets are those of pharmacies and real estate agencies.

In 2009 one of the largest yacht marinas in Turkey, D-Marin Didim Marina, was opened here. Since then it has become popular among yachtsmen, the owners of motor and sailing yachts. Quite often yachts are left for wintering in D-Marin.

In Didim the number of sunny days in a year is unusually high for this area and winters are warm. Water is very clean, and beaches are composed of pebbles. It all creates perfect conditions for engaging in water sports on the outskirts of the town. Diving and windsurfing are popular. In Didim itself there are a lot of entertaining things to do: amusement centers, night clubs, restaurants, a waterpark.

Archeological findings point out that the area in Didim district had been populated during the Neolithic period. The town of Didyma, the colony of Crete and Mycenae, had emerged in the ancient times; afterwards, it became a part of the Byzantine Empire, and in 1086 it became a part of Turkey. In 1955 it was destroyed by an earthquake and renamed into Yenihisar. But with the development of tourist industry, the town recovered its original antique name Didim.
